Pay It Forward / From The Class Room

Since early 2015 we have provided more thousands of copies of the Pay It Forward Young Readers Edition to schools and communities across the United States. This book is now being transcribed into other languages spreading the lessons around the globe. Below you will find a sample complete list of our Book Partners. We appreciate the support of teachers in school classrooms across the country, who use the Pay It Forward Young Readers Edition as a curriculum guide. One of the pillars of our work is make this book available for teachers & students around the world. From time to time we will acknowledge these teachers in this space.

Today we recognize Ms. Kim O’Neal, a teacher serving 3rd & 4th grade students at two schools in southwest Georgia. Ms. O’Neal received her books just this week and has already finished reading the book herself, in advance of sharing the book with students.

Kim has some great ideas for incorporating the meaning and message of Pay It Forward with her students. We can’t wait to hear how they receive the book!

Today we want to tell you about Maria Erardy and her work with students in New City, New York. Ms Erardy shared this with us about her plan and her class:

“We are a Rockland BOCES special education class and we work out of Link Elementary School in New City, NY.  Link Elementary is an International Baccalaureate World School-PYP. “The PYP  prepares students to become active, caring, lifelong learners who demonstrate respect for themselves and others and have the capacity to participate in the world around them. The school encourages student actions that will make the world a better place.”  My class is a class of students who are emotionally disabled. We are incorporating Dialectical Behavior Training into their curriculum to help them manage their emotions to help cope with changes, disappointments and life in general.   As part of this training we are trying to foster the notion that random acts of kindness can make their world a better place.  We have taken this idea and we, as a whole class,  would like to bring random acts of kindness to the entire student body at Link Elementary School.  My classroom psychologist and I  are in the process of teaching our kids about Pay It Forward and they will in turn teach the children in their school community.”

Pictured are Ms. Erardy on the right and Dr. Maria Milano on the left.

This week we want to tell you about our friend and Book Partner, Marisa Underberger.
Ms. Underberger teaches at Park City Prep Charter School. In the photo are teachers at Park City Prep who are all using the book with their students in grades 5 – 8.

We are really excited about Marisa and all the teachers who are using the book this fall.
We shared more than 1,400 books with teachers & students in twenty-seven schools.

Kristen Gainer, a 5th grade teacher in Harrisburg, PA, is using our book this fall. She has also shared copies with other teachers in her school so they can involve their students.

Ms. Gainer’s class is also taking the challenge at the end of the book, writing their own “next chapter”. We look forward to sharing their ideas in the weeks ahead.

Thanks Kristen!
